New Orleans

New Orleans

See my post for all the pictures and details.

This is another place I’ve been multiple times. I didn’t have one itinerary I preferred so I organized this a little differently. A little more a la carte menu to help plan your dream NOLA experience.

Day Time Downtown

  • Jackson Square – fun & historical place to walk around. Plenty of street entertainers, restaurants & architecture. This is also where you’ll find St. Louis Cathedral.
  • Mississippi River River Front – enjoy a pleasant stroll down the Mississippi river front.
  • Cruise down the Mississippi with Steamboat Natchez – The entire cruise is about 2.5 hours. You’ll causally ride down the river and make a stop or two while getting good historical information.
  • WW2 Museum – This place is massive. I know some people who have spent more than one day just at this museum.
  • Ride the Streetcars – We usually prebuy the 1-day Jazzy Pass (I think it cost $3). This is a great way to see lots of NOLA. They are usually open air and are a slow pace. So sit back & enjoy the ride.
    • St. Charles line (12) – Hop on at Carondelete & Canal st. This will take you through residential neighborhoods, Tulane & Loyola Universities. We hop off at the Carrollton & St Charles stop for Camellia Grill.
    • Riverfront line (49) – To the French Market.
  • Saint Louis Cemetery No 1 – It may seem strange to tour a cemetery, but this one should be on your itinerary. You learn great history & see some famous graves.

Night Time Downtown

  • Ghost tour – I didn’t put one link in particular because there are too many to chose from.
  • Bourbon street – obviously! Enjoy a fun evening walking down this famous street. If you can, at least once in your life, do get a balcony room overlooking Bourbon.
  • Preservation Hall – Super fun. It was about an hour long show but they packed a lot in.
  • Carousel Bar – located inside Hotel Monteleone. It’s an actual spinning carousel and they still serve prohibition era drinks.
  • Royal Street – If Bourbon Street isn’t your scene, try a walk down Royal Street (one block down). There are incredible galleries & shops.
  • Sugar Bowl at Casears Superdome – I did have to call this out since it was the reason for one of my trips. But do check out any event happening.

Restaurants

  • Walk in anywhere – While I do have some of my personal favorites, NOLA is a place you can walk in anywhere and eat a DELICIOUS meal.
  • Camellia Grill – This one is a little off downtown, but I put it at the top of my list for a reason.
  • Cafe du Monde – famous beignets. The location by the Riverwalk had a “to go” line.
  • Napoleon’s House – The house built for Napoleon is now a restaurant.
  • Felix’s Oyster Bar or Acme Oyster House – These two are across the street from each other. Both popular.
  • Ernst cafe – A smaller place with classic NOLA favorites.
  • Gumbo Shop – Gumbo is in the name so you know it’s good.
  • Pizza & Daiquiris – They’re everywhere.
